Mayor Spano Celebrates Annual Kwanzaa Children’s Book Drive Distributing Over 1,000 Children’s Books

Mayor Mike Spano, along with the Mayor’s African American Advisory Board and the Yonkers Public Library, hosted the Annual Kwanzaa Children’s Book Distribution on Tuesday December 23, where they distributed over 1,000 books collected during the Annual Kwanzaa Children’s Book Drive.

This year’s celebration placed a special emphasis on the Kwanzaa principle Nia (Purpose) which honors collective responsibility to build, develop, and uplift the community. By promoting literacy and providing young readers with culturally affirming books and resources, the event reinforces the purpose of nurturing confident, informed, and inspired children who will carry the community forward. In addition to free children’s books, families received backpacks and a special treat.
