
Mayor Mike Spano joined with State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, State Senator Shelley Mayer, Assembly Member Chantel Jackson, Superintendent of Schools Anibal Soler, Jr. and Yonkers Federation of Teachers President Samantha Rosado-Ciriello on October 28 for a rally urging Governor Hochul to sign a bill to require the State Education Department to survey schools statewide regarding their K-6 recess practices, and to celebrate the terrific practices of the Yonkers Public Schools.
Others joining the Power of Play rally were Yonkers NAACP President Kisha Skipper, Board of Education President Dr. Rosalba Corrado Del Vecchio, PTA President Brenda Cardoza, Social Worker Isabella Denyssenko, and student leaders Carolina Correia and Giulia Friscia. School leaders, lawmakers, and students said that guaranteed daily recess is helping kids build confidence, solve problems, develop empathy, and find joy in discovery.
