Yonkers Mayor Spano Attends Grand Opening of New Lldl Supermarket

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano was on hand for the grand opening on October 22 of the new Lidl store, located in Yonkers at 2570 Central Park Ave. in the Smoketown Station Shopping Center. Lidl, a Germany-based grocery chain known for its low prices and focus on private-label products, said the Yonkers store will feature a mix of fresh produce, meats, baked goods, and imported specialty items.

The chain operates more than 12,000 stores worldwide, including over 180 in the United States since entering the American market in 2017.

The Yonkers store includes an in-house bakery with freshly baked breads and pastries throughout the day. Among its offerings are the company’s well-known 49-cent butter croissants and a rotating lineup of seasonal items, such as pumpkin muffins introduced for the fall. The opening represents the latest step in Lidl’s expansion across New York State, following locations in Long Island, Staten Island, and the Hudson Valley.

Founded in the 1970s, Lidl is part of the Schwarz Group, one of the world’s largest retail companies. Its US headquarters is in Arlington, Virginia.
